Lynne Christensen

July 23, 1938 — May 30, 2023

On Tuesday, May 30, 2023, Elnora Lynne Davis Christensen, loving wife and mother of five children, passed away in the home of her daughter at age 84. Lynne was born on July 23, 1938, in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Ivan and Nora Davis, the second daughter of five children. Ivan was a sheepherder and potato farmer; Nora was a homemaker and Avon beauty products distributor.

Lynne graduated from Shelley High School in 1956. She played the alto saxophone in jazz bands around the county, and she was active in drama and pep club. On June 13, 1958, she married Val Christensen (from Firth, Idaho) in the Idaho Falls Temple after Val served a mission to Australia. Lynne supported Val in getting his degree in engineering from Utah State University. They raised three sons, Cal-Dee, Davis, and Tyler; and two daughters, Stacey, and Debbie (who joined their family in 1984). They lived briefly in California, before joining IBM and moving to Longmont, Colorado in 1965. In 1979, they transferred with IBM to Tucson, Arizona.

Lynne was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many callings such as stake young women’s president, girls’ camp director, seminary teacher, and ward chorister. She was also a tireless support to Val as he served as bishop twice – in Longmont, Colorado, and at the University of Arizona singles ward. Lynne loved the youth and opened her home and heart to many who needed a place to stay and called them her own.

She loved camping, gardening, horseback riding, quilting, and singing. She owned a wedding flower business, “Flowers from Lynne,” and offered her own backyard for many wedding receptions. After Val retired in 1993, the couple served six missions for the church: Alaska, Denver, Tucson (twice), Pocatello, and the University of Arizona Institute. Lynne had a deep devotion to family, caring for both parents in their final years. Spending time with her family, including her children, 17 grandchildren, and 48 great-grandchildren, was her greatest joy.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Frank Val Christensen; her parents, Ivan and Nora; two sisters, Denise (Beck) and Joyce (Wheeler-Mahlin); and brother-in-law, Roy Wheeler. She is survived by her brothers Bruce (Starr) Davis, and Monte (Debbie) Davis, as well as her five children: Cal-Dee (Cheryl) Christensen, Idaho Falls, Idaho; Davis (Bernice) Christensen, Los Alamos, New Mexico; Stacey (Aaron) Nymeyer, Tucson, Arizona; Debbie (Dave) Heath, Laramie, Wyoming; and Tyler (Julie) Christensen, Spring City, Utah.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 19, 2023 at Nalder Funeral Home, 110 W. Oak St. Shelley, Idaho at 10:00 o’clock a.m. Lynne will be buried next to her husband and parents at Hillcrest Cemetery in Shelley immediately after the service.
