Enid Oswald

July 27, 1941 — April 27, 2025

Enid Mellies Oswald passed away at her home on April 27, 2025 from natural causes. She was born on July 10, 1941 and was the third child of Woodrow Wilson and Vivian Pack Mellies. The family lived in Shelley where she attended school and graduated from Shelley High School.

On December 19, 1962, she married Allen James Oswald Sr. in the Idaho Falls, Idaho, temple. They were married for almost 60 years. To this union were born one daughter and two sons. The family lived in Pocatello, Idaho Falls, and the majority of their years in the Taylor area of Shelley. Enid was an active member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many callings. She greatly enjoyed working for a number of years as a temple ordinance worker.

She had many talents and hobbies. She had a great love for music and learning and enjoyed working in her yard and garden. Her love of music started at a young age. Her mother encouraged her to learn to play the piano and to sing with her two older sisters. By the age of ten she taught herself how to play the organ. Over the years she accompanied many groups, taught piano lessons to hundreds of students, and was the ward pianist and organist for many years. Her love of music has been handed down as a wonderful legacy to her family. She also loved to crochet, knit and sew and has crocheted numerous doilies and other beautiful creations over the years. She enjoyed being outdoors including camping in Island Park and other surrounding areas.

Enid was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and three siblings Janeel, Yvonne, and Paul. She is survived by her three children Janet (David) Searle of Shelley, Allen J. Oswald Jr. of Lewiston, Idaho, and Michael D. (Rhonda) Oswald of Virginia Beach, Virginia, 9 grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her younger siblings Gregg Mellies and Cindy Mellies Chandler.

A private family service will be held at a later date. Burial will be in the Taylor Cemetery. The family wishes to give a special thanks to all those who provided care and support to Enid during the last few years of her life.
