George Leon White

June 9, 1928 — February 22, 2014

George Leon White, 85, of Shelley, Idaho passed away February 22, 2014. He left with his sweetheart by his side, but he is now in heaven with his little girl.

He was born in Shelley, Idaho on June 9, 1928 to Earl George and Effie Russell White. He was one of 12 children. He was raised in Shelley, Idaho and attended school there. At the age of 17 he joined the Navy and served our country for 2 years.

He met Elizabeth Anne Ricker in 1948 and married October 29, 1948. The following year they began their family. Cynthia Anne White was the first of 6 children. Soon to follow was Linda Lou, Gaylan Leon, Rodney Dee, Ina Sue and Lita Jo “Jody”.

He owned his own service station, known as the City Service Center. He was lucky enough to work with a son and son in law for many of those years. After selling his business he then worked for the City of Shelley until he later retired at the age of 59. After retirement he enjoyed traveling with his wife and they enjoyed many winters in Blythe, California where he met and made many friends as he always had the knack of doing.

He loved many things in life, but family was his number one priority. He loved their mine in Challis, Idaho. He enjoyed horse shoes, eating ice cream and popcorn, giving whisker burns to his grandchildren, and taking walks holding his sweethearts hand.

He was survived by his wife, Elizabeth Anne White of Shelley, Idaho. His siblings, Vyonne Humes of St. George, Utah, LuJuanna Carney of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Jeanette (Delar) Lords of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Earl Jr. (Polly) White of Menan, Idaho, Marilyn Lafrance of Oregon, Dorothy Bischoff of Shelley, Idaho, and Deona (John) Gonzales of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and five children, Cynthia (Ric) Rivers of Irwin, Idaho, Linda (Ed) Powell of Palmer, Alaska, Gaylan (Suzanne) White of Shelley, Idaho, Rodney (Echo) White of Shelley, Idaho, Ina (Mike) Mulberry of Idaho Falls, Idaho, son-in-law, Duke Arave of Shelley, Idaho; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.

He is proceeded in death by his grandparents, John and Mary Russell and George and Eliza White; parents Earl and Effie White; his brothers, Raymond White and Ronald White; his sisters, Iola Lorraine White and Vera Lille; his daughter, Lita Jo “Jody” Arave.

Graveside services will be held 1:00 P.M. Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery with Pastor Mike Eld officiating.  Military rites will be performed by the David B. Bleak Post 93 of Shelley assisted by the Idaho Honor Guard. Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of Nalder Funeral Home in Shelley.
