Harold G Simpson

Harold Glen Simpson 86 of Shelley Idaho passed away peacefully at his home on February 28, 2026. Dad was born October 11th, 1939 at Eaton’s maternity home in Shelley to Glen and June Simpson. Dad was the 1st born of four children. Dad grew up on the family farm in Jameston where he learned to work hard and long hours. He attended school in Jameston and Shelley graduating from Shelley high school in 1958.

After graduating, dad married Shirley Russell on August 21st 1959. To this union they had four children and remained in the Shelley area. He and his wife Shirley ran the service station in Shelley for 5 years, specializing in automotive care. After 21 years they divorced in 1979, but remained friends.

Dad was a jack of all trades, holding many jobs over the years. Some of his jobs included being a mechanic for Bonneville Paving, Baker’s mink ranch, State Hospital south, Orville Fielding Farms, a local lumber yard, coal company, and worked for a teacher’s family in American Falls and was a bus driver for the INEEL (EG&G) in which he retired. To keep his CDL active he continued to drive travel busses for the local hockey team and took people to the casino in Jackpot. After his so called retirement, he worked for his son Russell at River Raft Marine fixing boat motors.

In his free time dad enjoyed the outdoors including traveling, fishing, hunting, boating, camping, snowmobiling, prospecting and reloading ammunition for his gun collection. Another favorite pastime of his was photography. He loved taking photos for family, friends, and landscapes entering serval in the state fair. Dad was a long time member of the AA and sponsored many people.

Dad was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where he enjoyed many callings including Stake secretary and working with the youth in the scouting program and even went on the pioneer trek. He gained many friendships and built many strong relationships.

He was preceded in death by his parents Glen and June, his sister Marilyn and brother Elmer (Ray) and son Russ.

He is survived by his youngest brother Gene (Shannon) of Fortine Montana, his ex-wife and life long friend Shirley (Joe), son Robert Earl Simpson (Teresa) Shelley, daughter Terri Simpson of Shelley, daughter Kelly Gardner (Keith) Blackfoot, 16 grand children, 27 great grand children and 4 great great grand children.

The family would like to express a special thanks to his cousins Craig and Justin Simpson for helping Dad throughout the years and being there for us during this hard time. You hold a special place in our hearts.

Thank you to Brio Home Health and Hospice for the special care they gave to him in his last months of his life.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 2026 at Nalder Funeral Home, 110 W Oak Street in Shelley. The family will receive friends Saturday morning from 9:30 a.m. till 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Taylor Cemetery.
