Our loving mother, Marilyn Emma Nielson Hansen, passed away in Idaho Falls, Idaho, on August 9, 2012, at the age of 84 with her family by her side.
Marilyn was born November 24, 1927, in Goshen, Idaho. She was the eighth of eleven children born to Oliver and Astrid Johansson Nielson.
She attended school in Goshen, Idaho, and graduated in 1945 from Firth High School.
On November 26, 1946, she married Glenn Lorenzo Hansen, in the Idaho Falls Temple. They made their home in Shelley, Idaho where they have lived for 66 years. Music was a very important part of Marilyn’s life. She learned to play the saxophone at the age of eight and began playing in her father’s dance band at the age of 13. Marilyn spent most week-ends playing for dances in the Shelley area.
Marilyn was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings. She especially loved her opportunities to serve as the Chorister, where she organized many musical programs and holiday celebrations.
Her hobbies included quilting, sewing, reading, and crocheting. She loved serving others and was very selfless. She always put others’ needs before her own and guaranteed that they were taken care of.
Marilyn is survived by her loving husband and her five children, Carl L. Hansen (Judy) of Shelley, Idaho, Ronda K. Longhurst (Reed) of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Karilyn Hill (Greg) of Salt Lake City, Utah, Kevin G. Hansen (Carolyn) of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Brian K. Hansen of Salt Lake City, Utah; brothers, Carlos (Donna) Nielson of Shelley, Idaho, Dennis Nielson of Syracuse, Utah, and Marvin (Norma) Nielson of St. George, Utah; sisters, Naomi Larsen of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Melva (Bill) Johnson of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Nancy Simmons of Idaho Falls, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Laverne and Carl Nielson, and sisters, Edla Schnell and Veniece Hess.
Her honored legacy includes 18 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, August 14, 2012, at the Shelley 3
