Marvin Cleve Hicks passed away on June 3, 2026, at the age of 89; at his home in Shelley, Idaho due to natural causes related to age.
He was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho on November 13, 1936, to Beulah Leavitt and V. Morand Hicks. He was the oldest of five children. He grew up and attended schools in Ventura, CA; Hamer, ID; and Shelley, ID. While in the 8th grade he met the love of his life, Krystal Kirkham, and they were later married in the Logan, Utah temple on October 8, 1954. They welcomed to their home 5 children.
Marvin served in the United States Marines Corp. He was stationed in Okinawa, Japan and Korea. He was a skilled mechanical engineer and spent much of his life designing and fabricating food processing and other types of equipment. Many of his ideas and designs were the foundations for the advanced technology employed today. He served as president of Bingham Mechanical, Atlas Mechanical, and also SteelCraft---where he worked with some of his sons. Due to the nature of his business and his expertise, he traveled and did business with places far across the globe including Saudi Arabia. Marvin and Krystal also owned and operated Krystal Lake Golf Course in Shelley for many years, employing some of their children, grandchildren, and friends. He also trained and qualified as an airplane pilot and had a map displayed of all his flights. After retirement he transported documents for Bonneville Blueprint in Idaho Falls until Krystal became ill. He was Krystal’s primary care-giver until she passed away in June of 2020.
Marvin was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many callings and assignments over his life. He met and touched many through his service and developed many lasting friendships.
He looked forward to his meals at Mick’s Home Cooking in Shelley and the camaraderie he had there. Marvin is an amazing man who had incredible life experiences and made friends at every turn.
He is survived by his sisters, Linda (Gary) Odell of Idaho Falls and Darlene (Darrell) Schumacher of Apple Valley, UT; brother, Ernest (Sharla) Hicks of Anaheim, CA; daughter, Barbara (Terrell) Hoskins of Shelley ID; sons, John Hicks of New Castle, CO, Edward “Eddy” Hicks of Pocatello, ID, and Richard (Misty) Hicks of Idaho Falls, ID; 16 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and parents-in-law Doug and Geneal Kirkham, his sweetheart, Krystal Kirkham Hicks, son, Neal J Hicks, and grandchildren, Brandon and Lorna Hoskins.
A graveside service will be held on Monday June 8 at 11am at Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery with military rites. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 am prior to the service at Nalder Funeral Home in Shelley, ID.
