Nellie Lu (Nel) Phillips, 83, of Shelley passed away on the afternoon of Saturday, August 30, 2025 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She will be dearly missed.
Nel was born in Rigby, Idaho on June 16, 1942 to Ira L. (Bud) Lindsay and Evron Kinghorn Lindsay. She attended schools in Rigby and Roberts, and graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1960.
She married Lester Phillips on October 20, 1961 and they were the parents of four sons. Nellie was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and loved her service in Relief Society and Cub Scouts, and enjoyed being a visiting teacher.
She was manager at Teton Dry Cleaners and Imperial Dry Cleaners for twenty plus years. She worked at Shelley High school for seven years where she was so loved by the students with special needs.
Nel's love for her family and friends was unparalleled! She was a wonderful cook and homemaker. She raised her boys on the Phillips Family Farm in Ucon and loved her friends and neighbors there. After moving to Shelley, she again loved her friends and neighbors.
She is survived by her sons, Scott (Dawn) Phillips and Reece (Nan) Phillips; eleven grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren; siblings, Caroll Walker, Colleen Scheid, Jean Mason, Douglas Lindsay, Joan (Richard) Peterson, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bud and Evron Lindsay; parents-in-law Ed and Ida Phillips; sister, Janet Crowley; brothers, Kurtis Lindsay and Lynn Lindsay; her husband, Lester Phillips; sons, Bradley Phillips and Jason Phillips, and grandson, Crue Phillips.
We extend a huge "Thank You" to Nel's Enhabit Hospice Team, the Shelley First Ward, and wonderful neighbors (you know who you are).
