Rosalee Hill

Rosalee Hill is the first of eleven children born to Ralph Earl Hill and Evelyn Matheson Hill. She was born at Eaton Maternity Home in Shelley, Idaho on February 8, 1957.

Rosalee was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She lived a life which demonstrated faith in God and service to all of those around her. In recent years she kept her scriptures on the table so she could read them with breakfast. She served in many callings including ward organist, primary pianist and chorister and teacher, and visiting teacher. She helped as primary pianist, chorister, and teacher in the Spanish ward in Salt Lake City and then when the Spanish branch started in Firth she helped with primary and the cub scouts.

Rosalee served many years as a Boy Scout Counselor and as a Webelos leader. She welcomed all of the Webelos age boys in the neighborhood to participate and gave extra individual effort to help each boy succeed. She received several district awards of merit for her service in scouting.

Rosalee never needed a hymnbook to sing in Sacrament meeting because she memorized all of the words to all of the hymns in the hymnbook.

Rosaelee was self-sufficient, worked hard, and pressed forward to meet her goals at home and at work. She earned an Associate Degree in business. She also wanted to earn a Bachelor’s degree. In her later years, she started on her bachelor’s degree in genealogy through BYU’s online program. She had to drop that goal due to her own declining health and energy and the time she was spending helping take of mom.

Rosalee also liked to sing. She sang with choirs at school, church, and in a single adult choir. She also enjoyed dancing, especially square dancing.

Rosalee was a great daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She wanted to be a mother but didn’t have the opportunity to have children of her own. However, she was a special aunt and second mother to Renee’s children: Alexander, Natalie, Ryan, and Heather. She helped care for them when they were young and their dad was in school. Renee’s family then lived with Rosalee for a while and there were a lot of visits back and forth after they moved to Provo then Salt Lake. She was staying with them and they were taking care of her between hospital visits earlier this year before her surgery.

Rosalee loved being out in nature, family, hiking, climbing, camping, genealogy, reading, learning about the stars and space, working in her yard and flower garden, and computer programming.

Her surgery in May was successful but she kept having complications. On July 18, 2025, her body was just too weak to overcome the effects of a serious infection and she passed through the veil to join family on the other side. She will be greatly missed here.

Rosalee was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Angel, brother, Vaughn, brother-in-law, David, nieces, Elizabeth and Hayley, and nephew, Danny.

She is survived by her siblings, Kathlee Bishop, Lorina (James) White, Kevin (Julie) Hill, Ivan (Jo) Hill, Charlotte (Bill) Davidson, Elvina (Paul) Maynes, Daniel Hill, and Renee (Jim) Page. She is also survived by 33 nieces and nephews and 24 great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at the Firth Stake Center, 823 N 675 E, in Basalt. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 till 7:30 p.m. at Nalder Funeral Home, 110 West Oak Street, Shelley, and Tuesday morning from 10:00 a.m. till 10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Grove City Cemetery.
