Stan Reed Griffiths

May 26, 1956 — Jul 12, 2026

Stan Reed Griffiths passed away at the age of 70 on July 12th, 2026, after having been diagnosed with lung cancer and related heart complications just days before.

Stan was born May 26, 1956 to Weldon John Griffiths and Ivean Hansen Griffiths. He grew up in Shelley, Idaho.

Stan was the fourth of six children. As a child, Stan was always finding mischief and looking for ways to outsmart others with his quick wit.

Stan learned to work hard from a young age. He spent his summers working in the family garden, moving irrigation pipes in farm fields, and working as a school janitor.

From the age of five, Stan knew he wanted to be a doctor. He worked hard in school and always had excellent grades. He graduated from Shelley High School, Brigham Young University, and then went on to medical school at St. Louis University. Stan spent five years in a residency program at University of New Mexico, where he specialized in orthopaedic surgery.

After residency, Stan worked in the public healthcare sector for four years in Gallup, New Mexico. He then went into private practice in Idaho Falls—serving the Idaho Falls community for many years with Griffiths Orthopaedics and then with Summit Orthopaedics.

Stan served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sacramento, California. He served in many church callings during his life, and thoroughly enjoyed teaching opportunities.

During his time at BYU, Stan met and married Donna Oxspring Griffiths. They had three children and were married for 35 years. They later divorced.

Stan married Joy Kincaid Griffiths in 2015. They spent the last ten years enjoying time together skiing, camping, hiking, and being outdoors with their beloved dogs, Duffy, Sophie, and Archie.

Always the adventurer, Stan was happiest when doing his hobbies, which included mountain climbing, rock climbing, road and mountain biking, hiking, running, skiing, traveling, gardening, and wood working.

Stan is survived by his wife, Joy, his children, Brock (Katy) Griffiths, Randah (Edward) Urbina, and Sean (Kaylyn) Griffiths, stepson Maxwell (Moriah) Kincaid, as well as eight grandchildren, Kayla, Allie, Whitney, Harper, Porter, Marley, Claire, and Marcus, his siblings, Jay (Nicole) Griffiths, Bonita (Jeff) Jardine, Nile (Wendy) Griffiths, Mardi (Don) Evett, and Gene (Danette) Griffiths, and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Weldon and Ivean Griffiths.

Stan will be remembered by his loved ones as hard working, generous and adventurous. Stan was always on the go, forever seeking opportunities to learn new things and skills, and sought any chance to enjoy the outdoors.

On Saturday, July 18th, family and friends are invited to gather for a reception from 12:00-12:45, and then the funeral will follow at 1:00 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 3195 S Holmes Ave, Idaho Falls, ID 83404. He will be laid to rest in Cedron Cemetery in Victor, Idaho, near The Teton Range that he so loved. Arrangements are under the direction of Nalder Funeral Home.
