Stephen Willard Duce, 67, of Aiken, SC, passed away November 21st, 2018 after a brief struggle with pancreatic cancer.
Stephen was born to Franklin and Jennie Duce on January 26th, 1951 in Gunnison, Utah. He grew up in Shelley, Idaho with his four siblings.
Stephen married his high school sweetheart Janice Wright in 1971 and was a loving and devoted husband for forty-seven years. He was a wonderful and dedicated father to his five children. He loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed nature by hiking, fishing, camping and collecting insects. He was very talented in woodworking, photography and had a beautiful baritone voice that he shared in choirs and singing with family and friends.
Stephen graduated from Shelley High School, attended Ricks College (BYU Idaho), received a Bachelors degree from Brigham Young University, a Masters degree from Colorado State University and a second Masters degree from Kennedy-Western University. He enjoyed a long career as a Health Physicist that allowed him to travel the world, then settling in South Carolina where he retired. After retirement, he turned his interest to real estate, employing his talents to renovate and beautify houses. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities. His life was filled with selfless serving and caring for his fellow men.
He was preceded in death by his parents Franklin and Jennie (nee Fonnesbeck) Duce, brothers-in-law Karl Quigg and Calvin Lamborn.
He is survived by wife Janice Duce (nee Wright), sisters Bonnie Lamborn, Roselyn Quigg, Cathy (Scott) Wolff, and brother Lynn (Shari) Duce, children Stephen Shawn (Laurence) Duce, Jennilyn (Mark) Crews, Nathan (Rachel) Duce, Kimberly (Craig) Shepherd, and Rachel (Clark) Tompkins. He is also survived by his 18 grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held Friday morning, November 30, 2018, at 11:00am in the Shelley Fourth Ward Chapel, 184 N Park. The family will receive friends at the church from 9:00am to 10:40am prior to the service. He will be laid to rest at the Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery under the direction of Nalder Funeral Home in Shelley.
