Steven Staples, 76, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones at his home in Firth, Idaho on February 27, 2026.
Steve was born on March 21, 1949 in Shelley, Idaho to Donavon and Verda (Dye) Staples. He had three sisters, Marlene Jaramillo, Shirley Johnson, and Denise Barzee. Steve grew up in Goshen, Idaho and attended Firth High School. After graduation, Steve was drafted into the US Army. He served in Vietnam as a medic and was honorably discharged two years later.
On November 5, 1971 he married his high school sweetheart, Sandra Gentillon. They were blessed with four children, Marcy (Jon) Holley, Tate (Talonnie) Staples, Derrick Staples, and Calli Battleson. They were married for 54 years.
Steve started his career in sheet metal and worked in the union for 20 years. He started his own business, City Express, delivering to the INL. He later picked up side jobs installing commercial doors and hardware which turned into “Staples Installation.” He retired in 2022.
Sandy was always the light of his life. Together their marriage was a true partnership built on love, loyalty, and commitment. When he was diagnosed with cancer, she became his caregiver, advocate, and source of strength. She stood by his side through every appointment, challenge, and difficult day, loving him fiercely and selflessly until the very end. What a testament it was to love someone fully in both the best and hardest moments of life!
Steve’s children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were the greatest joys of his life. He loved each one dearly. Family time meant everything to him. He supported everyone in all their different activities and was so proud of each and every one of them.
Camping, fishing, hunting, RZR riding, and boating were some of his favorite memories. He cherished all his time with his buddies, whether they were meeting for lunch, riding RZRs, fishing, camping, sitting by the fire, or hanging out in Arizona. They truly were his family and he loved them so much.
Steve will be deeply missed and forever loved.
It’s not goodbye.. it’s a see you later!
