Valerie Ann Messick

Valerie Ann Messick passed away, Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at the age of 74.

Valerie was born February 14, 1951, the first of four children, to Joyce and Myron Johnson. She grew up and attended schools in Provo, Utah and graduated from BYU with a bachelor’s degree in microbiology.

On April 20,1973 she married Noal C. Messick in the Salt Lake City temple. Noal and Valerie made their home and raised four boys in Shelley, Idaho.

Valerie was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She enjoyed working in the Scouting program and was actively involved with the Boy Scouts at the time of her death. She found joy in crafting, building, sewing, quilting, painting, but most of all she loved her children and grandchildren.

Valerie is survived by her husband, Noal C. Messick of Shelley; son, Michael (Lettie) Messick of Shelley; son, Nathan (Jillece) Messick of Bella Vista, Arkansas; son, Jeremy (Carol) Messick; brother, David Johnson of Lehi, Utah; sister, Kristine Wood of Provo, Utah; sister, Denise Purdy of Payson, Utah; and 10 grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, son, Shane Messick, and grandson, Daniel Messick.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at the Shelley East Stake Center, 325 E Locust Street. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 till 7:30 p.m. at Nalder Funeral Home, 110 W Oak Street in Shelley and Tuesday morning from 9:30 a.m. till 10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery.
