Velma Jean Sturman

Velma Jean Gregersen Sturman, 87, formerly of Shelley, ID passed away on March 26, 2024 at Parkwood Meadows Assisted Living Center in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

Velma was born in Pocatello, ID on August 10, 1936 to Olive and Merril Gregersen.  She married Roger Sturman on October 14, 1955 in the Idaho Falls Temple.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  She served many callings throughout her life, including Primary Teacher, Stake Relief Society Presidency and as a Bishop’s wife while in Provo, UT.  While there, she served as a part-time service missionary doing sewing for the Humanitarian Center in Salt Lake City, UT.  She cleaned up dolls, fixed their hair, and sewed a cute outfit for each doll.  When she moved to Shelley, ID, she continued her service, working through the Humanitarian Center in Idaho Falls.  She was always looking for ways to serve others.

Velma is survived by her children, Brent (Lisa) Sturman of Pocatello, ID, Craig (Brandie) Sturman of Ucon, ID, Kristy (Blaine) Searle of Shelley, ID and Joel (Heather) Sturman of Lehi, UT.  She was preceded in death by a daughter Michelle (Wayne) Sanderson of Richmond, UT, a brother, Juel Gregersen, and husband Roger Sturman.

Velma has 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. 

Our family would like to thank Parkwood Meadows and Hands of Hope Hospice for the care that they provided to our mother during the time she was there.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 30, 2024 at Nalder Funeral Home located at 110 W. Oak in Shelley, ID.  A visitation will be held Saturday morning from 9:00-10:45 a.m.  Interment will be at the Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery.
