Wayne Eugene Lyon- a beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Friend died at home on December 29 after fighting liver cancer. He was under the care of Encompass Hospice.
He was born September 29, 1938, in Firth, Idaho, to Frank Eugene and Beth Baird Lyon. He graduated from Firth High School in 1956 and married his sweetheart, Carolyn Ann Larson of Basalt, Idaho, on August 28, 1957, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
He received his Bachelor’s degree from Utah State University and his Master’s degree from the University of Idaho. He also passed his two year certificate as an airplane mechanic at Utah State.
He taught at Blackfoot High School for 34 years where he taught math, physics, science, and drafting. He served for several years as head negotiator for the Blackfoot Education Association and also served as its president.
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in several callings, including one of his favorites—Executive Secretary for Bishop John Chapman.
He served for almost eight years as a missionary in the Idaho Falls Regional Family History Library, and almost three of those years as Director. He loved the missionaries, who served with him, especially his assistant directors.
His children always said before Google there was Dad. There was hardly anything he couldn’t fix or figure how to make parts for if they were unavailable. He was a self-taught auto mechanic, carpenter, appliance and electronics repairman, pit-crew boss, plumber, electrician, construction engineer, mechanical engineer, survivalist, yachtsman, agronomist, mason, farmer, cabinet maker, architect, furniture maker, computer programmer, and the list goes on. He designed and built his own home as well as many others. He was always available to help family or friends.
He loved the outdoors. He loved camping, 4-wheeling, sailing, hiking, hunting, fishing and was a wild driver in the mountains in his jeep. He also built a beautiful redwood canoe which friends and family loved to enjoy in lakes and rivers. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He also enjoyed traveling, visiting all fifty states, several places in Canada and Mexico, cruises to the Bahamas, Alaska, and the Panama Canal. (Which he returned from last week.)
He is survived by his wife of Firth, their four children, Heidi Ann (John) Alsup of Brigham City, Utah; Ramona Lyn (Danny) Mitchell of Firth; Craig Eugene Lyon of Firth; Diana Kae (Kent) Sargent of Aberdeen, Idaho; Grandchildren Jeremy, Ryan, Courtney Alsup; Shane, Danielle, Matt, Casey Mitchell; Tara, Maddison, Aubry, Chelsey, Alec Lyon; Matthew Brandon, Lauren Sargent; 13 greatgrandchildren with two more on the way.
