Wayne Dee Griffin, 85, of Shelley, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Wayne was born on August 1, 1940, in Rexburg, Idaho, the youngest of ten children of Jesse and Electa Griffin. When he was eight, his family moved to the Jameston area of Shelley, where he attended school and built a life rooted in community, service, and family.
Before beginning his long career with Westinghouse of Idaho, Wayne worked a variety of jobs that reflected his strong work ethic. He joined Westinghouse in 1979 in the clothing issue room, earned his HP certification in 1982, and retired as an Engineer Aid in June 2001.
At age 20, Wayne married Linda Lent in August 1960, and together they raised five children. After their divorce in 1981, he married Delila Anderson in February 1982, welcoming her son into the family.
A devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Wayne served faithfully in many callings. Ministering and working in the Temple were among his most cherished responsibilities.
Wayne gave generously of his time to his community. He served as area director for Grid Kid Football, Parks and Recreation, and youth baseball, and was active in organizations including the Jaycees from 1968 to 1970.
An avid outdoorsman, Wayne loved fishing, camping, golfing, and spending time in his shop working on projects. He was a loyal supporter of his favorite sports teams and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on his grandchildren at their events. He was also passionate about politics and actively campaigned for Republican candidates.
Wayne is survived by his children: Michelle; Michael (Jeni); Guy (Cheree); Mark (Crickett); Monte (Janet); and Mindy; as well as 20 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and his sister, Dixie Allred. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Delila, his parents, eight siblings, and one grandchild.
Wayne’s warmth, dedication, and unwavering community spirit left a lasting impact on all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his family, friends, and the community he served so faithfully.
The family will welcome friends for visitation on Saturday, February 21, from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at Nalder Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. Wayne will be laid to rest in the Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery.
