Wayne Lee Raymond, age 100, of Shelley, Idaho, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2025, after sharing sweet final moments with family and friends at the Idaho State Veterans Home in Pocatello.
Wayne was born on February 19, 1925, in Ogden, Utah, to Sadie and Leland Raymond. He was raised in the Alameda area of Pocatello until his mother’s passing when he was just nine years old. Following her death, Wayne and his father moved in with his maternal grandmother, who lovingly became his primary caregiver. In time, Wayne’s father remarried, expanding the family with several stepbrothers, stepsisters, and three half-brothers whom Wayne cherished.
At 17, while still in high school, Wayne joined a summer military program in Colorado, where he helped repair P-38 fighter aircraft in support of the war effort. After graduating, he was drafted into the U.S. Navy and trained as a machinist. He served aboard the USS LSM-33, which took him to the Philippines and Japan. He was honorably discharged on December 25, 1945, following two years of service during World War II. Later, during the Korean War, Wayne joined the Navy Reserves and completed a training deployment to Pearl Harbor.
After his military service, Wayne married, started a family, and began an HVAC apprenticeship, launching a lifelong career as a journeyman sheet metal worker and furnace installer. He continued working well into his later years and was always happy to lend a hand—building and fixing things for family, friends, and neighbors.
Wayne was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and lived a life of service, humility, and hard work.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leland and Sadie Raymond; his beloved wife, Barbara Raymond; his sons Gail Raymond and Arthur Raymond; his baby brother Ronnie; and three grandchildren—Curtis Raymond, Art Jr. Raymond, and Christina Raymond.

To the best of our knowledge, this obituary reflects the fullness of Wayne’s life and family. But with so many generations and loved ones, we recognize the possibility of unintentional omissions. If anyone was missed, we offer our sincere apologies—it was never our intent to leave anyone out.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the Bannock County Veterans Memorial Building Fund, which is currently raising money for flood damage repairs.
